Review:
Wicked was a fun read, full of romance, mystery, and paranormal aspects. I loved the main character because she was fun, snarky, and sweet. Ivy was a hunter who hunted the Fae. When she found a Fae who didn’t react normally, she ended up being paired with a hunter from another town and the plot thickened from there.
I’m torn with my review because I enjoyed reading Wicked the entire time. There’s something fun about the characters. The author is always so spunky, sometimes reading her books is as fun and light as reading her own facebook posts and I love that she is able to write such lighthearted books like that. I liked the plot, the characters, and the romance in the book.
The problem with Wicked is that it is incredibly predictable. Ren is basically Damon except not an alien and is in a NA novel instead of a YA novel. I thought perhaps the green eyes would be the only similarity, but I felt like I was reading about the same guy. The plot is predictable in just about every way. Every revelation, every betrayal.. Everything was predictable. I knew what was happening the moment it happened and I knew what the ultimate conflict would be before the book ended with that cliffhanger. It wasn’t really a cliffhanger if I called it from the very beginning and it’s frustrating that the novel didn’t really do anything new to the genre or to her other books.
I don’t know that, with Jennifer L. Armentrout literally popping out books left and right, I’ll remember this series enough to come back to it and continue it. I’m not impressed by the book in terms of uniqueness or originality and I know that I can get what I like about her writing and characters from her other books. I do recommend Wicked if you’ve never before read any kind of a paranormal book and you like her style. It might not be as predictable if you’re less familiar with the genre.
