Summary: Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.
But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
So much for normal.

Paranormalcy was awesome. I loved it. It was fun, light, adventurous, and completely refreshing. I loved that it had all the paranormal creatures and elements I love without all of the heavy emotional baggage and seriousness of a paranormal romance.
Evie was a fun character. She was totally snarky, sarcastic, and liked to tase her paranormal creatures with a pink sparkly taser. Seriously, what’s not to love? Her job since she was 8 as part of the IPCA was to tag and bag paranormal creatures and keep them safe from humans, whether it meant being contained or given an ankle bracelet and a job at the Center. She was a foster kid, picked up by IPCA when she was young when it was discovered that she could see through all glamours. Which means all those suave vampires with handsome good looks end up looking like that and mixture of a corpse to Evie’s eyes. Her life was great, besides not having a family, being able to to go to normal school, or having normal friends. And that one creepy fairy ex boyfriend of hers who kept showing up.
When a crazy shape shifting stranger broke into the IPCA, Evie was immediately intrigued. She was the only one who figured out he was a shifter because of her gift. No one knew what he was, but Evie knew he was her age at least partially due to her ability. The shape shifter was just as witty as Evie, so their friendship developed pretty quickly. I loved his character. Evie’s best friend was also a mermaid who lived in a tank in the Center named Lish. She spoke through a computer, but she was a good friend to Evie.
Paranormalcy had a pretty interesting plot because it wasn’t anything familiar at all. While familiar paranormal creatures were in it, there were also some ones that were unique and they all played a roll in the overall plot. Evie’s life was turned upside down, but in just as many good ways as bad ways and I enjoyed her adventure. I can’t wait to pick up the next book and a highly recommend it for a fun, refreshing, and unique paranormal read. It’s definitely a must read if that’s your genre! And the best part? No cliffhanger ending. Just enough left open to make me want to read the next book and none of that cliffhanger angst.
