Summary: Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…
Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.Something worse than the Arum has come to town…
The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard. But then everything changes…
I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Review:

Onyx was a thrilling sequel to Obsidian. There was a lot more conflict involving the Luxen race and the dangers of being a human around them. Something was happening to Katy after the events at the end of book one. Something besides their new connection.

Katy and Daemon’s relationship was all over the place in this sequel. She was trying to fight him off because she thought he just wanted to be with her because they were now connected. He kept insisting that he wanted to be with her the entire time, but she wasn’t having any of it. Their rocky, hot and cold relationship continued on, but I think they both knew they were lying to themselves. It was entertaining.

The new guy at school knew a lot more than Katy originally thought. He wasn’t a Luxen or Arum, but somehow he knew everything. He had some of the answers that Katy was looking for. Of course, this added person just threw a wrench into the Katy/Daemon dynamic, which was another entertaining thing to watch unfold.

I loved how the conflict about the aliens, the DOD, and how humans were connected to it all unfolded in the sequel. There was so much going on that even the Luxen race wasn’t aware of at first. Katy got a lot tougher in Onyx because wanted to prove herself as an equal. She was working on controlling whatever it was that she could control after being changed. And it all led up to a crazy ending that left my jaw dropped open and my finger tapping on the One Click button for book three.

I definitely recommend the Lux series. I’ve heard so many awesome things about it over the past couple of years and now I know why. The author makes YA paranormal fun and interesting. There are times when there are tropes that make my eyes roll (missing parents, powers, romance in the midst of crazy conflict, heroine getting bruises and saying she was clumsy, etc), but the books are so entertaining and fun, you can’t help but keep turning the pages. There’s something captivating about the author’s writing and characters. I’ll definitely continue the series!
