Tragic Love (Sulfur Heights #2)

by M.S. Brannon

Summary: “From the moment I locked eyes with hers, we've had this undeniable connection that was and will always be wicked. A love that would literally kill me if it didn't survive, but lately, could kill me if it did.” ~Drake Evans.

For Drake and Presley, life has handed them more challenges than any one person should ever face in a lifetime. Together, they've survived Presley’s captivity from her deranged uncle, but now they must learn how to live with the events that surrounded her time spent with him, while keeping the details of her rescue a secret.

For Presley Quinn, living the last two years has been practically unbearable, constantly drowning in nightmares put there by a man responsible for the violent imagines continually playing in her mind. She keeps moving forward, but is barely clinging onto the edge when she’s faced with another obstacle from her past that is so unavoidable, so tragic, it threatens to break her apart—herself.

Drake will do anything to protect Presley from ever feeling pain again. His love is irrefutable. He walks side by side with her, vowing he will never let anyone harm her again. However, when an unexpected event turns Presley against everyone she’s ever loved, Drake is faced with trying to save the only woman he’s ever loved or severing the only lifeline she’s ever had—himself.

Source: I participated in a beta read of the book. I was provided a copy in exchange for an honest review and helpful feedback.

Note: I did read Tragic Love as a beta reader and it was my first time reading a book in such a raw format. I acknowledge the ARC and final versions may have some changes.

Review:

Oh. My. Gosh. I have so many feels after reading this. My heart hurts, but I'm so.. soo in love with the Sulfur Heights series. I loved Tragic Love. M.S. Brannon has completely captivated me with her characters and their stories. I absolute love every member of the Evan’s family. I wasn’t sure what to expect at first because Drake and Presley were present in Scarred Love and I thought I already knew their story. I thought a lot of the book would be recapping what I already kind of knew from Presley and Drake’s perspectives, but I discovered quickly that was not the case.

The story began after the events of Scarred Love, which was wonderful because everything I was getting was completely new to me.  Never in a million years would I have guessed the direction of the story. It was unpredictable, gritty, shocking, heart wrenching, and dark. I thought I already knew Presley and Drake, but I quickly realized their personalities and stories were much more complex than I previously believed. They were so real and raw and passionate. I loved getting to know more and having a different point of view than the ones in Scarred Love. Getting into the heads of Presley and Drake was fascinating, but so was getting to know Darcy and Reggie outside of their points of view.

The author has such a talent for weaving such dark and raw stories with characters I truly care about and root for. I refuse to spoil a single second of the story, but it’s absolutely amazing. I’m excited for the release and I can’t wait for more of the Sulfur Heights series. I want to know everyone’s story!  If you loved Scarred Love, Tragic Love is a must read. If you like New Adult contemporary romances with a lot of grit, attitude, and unforgettable characters, the Sulfur Heights series does not disappoint. I highly recommend it. Word of warning, though, Tragic Love's title is just as fitting as Scarred Love's title was.
